Two friends, Colorado natives with young families, launched a used cooking oil recycling business in 2007. Our focus was economic and environmental sustainability. We sought a solution to the twin problems of pollution and greenhouse gases derived from traditional diesel fuel.
We began experimenting with different methods of making biofuel and then designed a system for one of our trucks to run on pure vegetable oil discarded by restaurants. Soon five local restaurants agreed to let us collect their used cooking oil and help solve our gas problem (sorry!). Aspen Oil now recycles over 4.5 million lbs (and counting) of used cooking oil annually.
Along the way, there were innumerable challenges from: giant competitors, a constantly changing regulatory landscape, roller coaster demand and rapidly evolving technology. We have survived and thrived to become the leading recycler of used cooking oil in Colorado.
Our success derives not only from hard work but from our commitment to ethical business practices, to our dedication to sustainability and a single-minded focus on building and growing relationships with our partners-restaurants and food service establishments of all stripes.
We remain locally owned and operated, which allows us the flexibility and the authority to insure that our customers needs are met, and that they remain not only happy but delighted with our service.
