In 2007, the continued rise of fuel prices began to make it increasingly difficult to enjoy our love for mountain sports. The mountains were calling, but our gas problem was an issue (pun intended). Thus, this new challenge propelled an adventure for a sustainable and affordable gasoline alternative.

Two friends and proud Colorado Natives with a background in construction and irrigation, and with some spare capital, an idea, and an awareness of economic and environmental sustainability, we set out to build a company that locked arms with local dreamers and proprietors for a new way forward. We are family men, who believe business is best built upon honesty, integrity, and hard work.

We began experimenting with different methods of making biofuel and then designed a system for one of our trucks to run on pure vegetable oil discarded by restaurants. We began with five local restaurants that agreed to let us collect their used cooking oil and help solve our gas problem (sorry!). Aspen Oil now recycles over 4.5 million lbs (and counting) of used cooking oil annually.

Along the way, we faced massive challenges from policy shifts, national competition, and roller coaster markets to become local contenders in an industry where we survived through ingenuity and hard work.

Today, Aspen Oil is thriving and growing due to our commitment to ethics, our devotion to efficiency, our desire for sustainability and most importantly, our on-going loyal relationships we have with restauranteurs, proprietors, and locals just like you.
